It’s not all concrete…

So before there was a side project there was a main project. The main project focused way more on nudity . Not your “fine art prude”, not cheap “lads mag” glamour , not porn. But more a kind of tasteful light erotica mild b&w sleaze.

Times change, life changes, I became somewhat disillusioned with the whole thing and embraced my love for folklore and concrete.

That said I really miss the occasional nude and still feel it’s something I don’t want to give up on just yet (although there is a “deadline” !). So I’m sat in my rather nice hotel room typing a blog post whilst I’ve still got some of the creative energy left from today’s shoot.

My original thinking to have a clear separation between my urban/brutal/concrete “stuff”… and the nude work. I couldn’t see a common thread. But then I realised (in my head at least) what ties them together is narrative. I don’t want to take pictures that don’t see to have a story to tell . You might see a nude woman in a bedroom and be thinking “narrative” ?. Obviously it’s an artificial or imaginedbut the viewer can make up a story in their mind. What sort or room is it , why is she there , is she alone etc. What is she thinking ? . The viewer accepts the image as a sort of truth , a willing suspension of disbelief.

Charles Melcher stated "There is an inherent voyeurism in the act of taking a picture of someone, even if he or she knows that he or she is being photographed. The camera is always prying, looking for something secret about the person…"

And to be honest, if a sight of a nipple offends you so much feel free to stick to the dystopian gloom that is the rest of my website !

A friend of mine suggested I call the website “tits & concrete” and openly combine both. Whist I’m not quite so sure about the title the idea of combining both genres (although not in the same image ) works for me

Anyway what do you think ? Keep them seperate ? Embrace the side-project and mix and match ?
